About Ceumar
Introduction
Here's a crystal clear voiced brazilian singer, named "Ceumar" (
pronounced as "say-ooh-mar") , whose name could have been
an artistic reference: heaven (Ceu) and the sea (Mar) - very lyrical and a
justifying metaphor for her musical approach.
Minas Gerais
When asked, Ceumar will reveal the truth of her name: it's a combination of
her father's and mother's names. At home in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais,
the young Ceumar was exposed to the music of artists like Milton Nascimento,
Lo Borges, Clube da Esquina, Joyce and Boca Livre. When starting her own musical
adventure, Ceumar tended to choose the less obvious road, not very eager to
sing the songs "everybody" already sung before her. That was illustrated
by her more or less first show, which she called "30 Músicas que
você não ouve no radio" (30 Songs you don't hear on the
radio) and contained songs by Egberto Gismonti, A Barca do Sol, Hermeto Pascoal
and others.

Her
newest (5th) cd 'Live in Amsterdam' shows the colorful and versatile musical
skills of Ceumar. Besides the Brazilian style we already know from her, she
here proves to be a great jazzsinger as well! Accompanied by a jazztrio from
Amsterdam ( Del Ferro - Keus - Van der Hoeven) this live recording made in
the famous Tropentheater Amsterdam shows the wonderful blend of contemporary
Brazilian songs and jazz.
With
her 4th cd 'MEU NOME' Ceumar proves her live strength and emotions. This solo-cd
is already considered to be one of the best contemporary ( a subtle mix af
Brazilian folk, pop, jazz & samba ) albums from Brazil! Recorded completely
live in the FECAP-theatre in the heart of Sao Paulo, Ceumar shows why she
is so popular! With only a voice and her guitar she takes the audience into
the wonderful colored world of Ceumar with own compositions and lyrics. Telling
about beautiful colors, love, saudade. Sometimes the lyrics are serious, sometimes
sad or even playful! But always she sings direct from the heart.
Instrumentation: Ceumar : vocals, guitar, percussion. On some tracks additional piano or percussion by Yaniel Matos or Sergio Perere

Dindinha
(2000) - On her first well received cd Dindinha (2000), then 28-year-old
Ceumar was assisted by Zeca Baleiro, who not only delivered songs to the album,
but also produced it. Some of this songs were distributed by the independent
labels Nascente and Putumayo (Music from the Coffe Lands II) to some european
and american countries. During two years, Ceumar presented Didinha in many
brazilians states as Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Parana and foreing
countries as Portugal and China. She also has been in international festivals
in Hong Kong, Portugal, Belgium (SFINKS FESTIVAL), France (Nuits Atypiques)
and in private events in London.
Sempre
Viva - On her second album, the Itanhandu (Minas Gerais) born, but now
Sao Paulo based singer, continues that road. This time producing her own cd
and also making her debut as a composer. On Sempre Viva Ceumar moves on to
the next thing, not on an outlined route, but more as an expression to where
she stands now, what she wants to do, being the very creative talent. Some
arrangements and lyrics are partnerships with great brazilian musicians and
composers as Paulo Lepetit, Webster Santos, Rogerio Delayon and Swami Jr (arrangements);
Gero Camilo, Tata Fernandes, Zeca Baleiro and Chico Cesar (Lyrics). This performance
has been presented in Brazil´s states as Santa Catarina, Minas Gerais,
Parana, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Sempre viva has also been shown in Leuven
Festival in Belgium.
The approach on this album confirms Ceumar's creative mind and sense for adventure combining an unique universe, rythms as ballads, samba, xotes and jongos, along with her remarkable clear voice and outstanding musicality.
